3 Key Fundamentals

Three Key Fundamentals

For Better Health & Healing

Let’s  refocus on 3 key essentials when it comes to health and healing. I know you know what they are – but we ALL need reminders and prompts now and then. Intuitively these make perfect sense and I am one to listen to our intuition! But if you are someone who likes the know the science behind the principles, then we have that as well.  This is a quick read – so check it out. Be encouraged to refocus!

1. Nature Reset
Step outside for 10–15 minutes each day—even if it’s just to breathe, notice the light, or slow your thoughts. Time in nature is one of the simplest ways to calm the nervous system and ease stress. Even brief contact with green space has been shown to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, support emotional regulation, and improve clarity of thought. (1)
In my clinic, I often remind people that nature is medicine—and it’s free. You don’t have to hike a mountain or lie under a tree for hours; even a few mindful minutes can reset your whole system and bring your body back into balance. This is a picture of me in Sydney Park, just behind my clinic. Such a pleasure to take some time and walk, think & realign!

2. Check Your Inner Voice

What’s one health belief you’re holding that may no longer serve you? Gently try replacing it with something more open, like: “I’m willing to explore new ways to heal.” The way we talk to ourselves – especially around health – can either block or support your healing. Research in cognitive behavioral therapy (2) shows that shifting internal dialogue can positively influence emotional wellbeing, motivation, and health outcomes.
In my experience, mindset is often the missing link. When someone begins to question old beliefs and open up to new possibilities, even subtle changes in the body can start to follow. It’s not about being positive all the time—it’s about being willing to shift the inner story.

3. Fresh Food Is Far From Boring

Instead of overhauling your whole diet, try this: just add one extra fresh, colourful plant food to a meal each day. A simple but powerful step. Studies consistently show (3) that increasing fruit and vegetable intake improves overall health, lowers inflammation, and reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers.
I’ve found that people get overwhelmed trying to adjust their diet all at once. But health isn’t about perfection – it’s about consistency and small, persistent shifts. One more vegetable, one less processed food… it really does add up. And over time, these changes may help create a healthier and more balanced, you.

Ideal Treatment

When Is The Ideal Time For Treatments?

Certainly Not When You Have Symptoms!

In my experience, the clients who see the best results with their health are the ones who don’t wait until something becomes quite severe before taking action. A cliché I know, but prevention is powerful: reducing likelihood of illness or disease, managing a condition or minimising the disease process.  Whether it’s a regular massage, naturopathic treatment, or carefully chosen natural medicines, looking after yourself while you’re feeling well can be the key to staying that way.

When you support your body before problems arise or get worse,

you’re giving yourself the best chance to maintain good health both short and long-term.

  1. Microbiome Balance

Take digestion, for example. Many people don’t think about their gut health until symptoms like bloating, discomfort, or sluggish bowels become an issue. But by addressing something as simple as occasional constipation early – before it disrupts the microbiome – you can prevent a whole cascade of imbalances. The gut is central to so many aspects of health, from immunity to mood, and keeping it functioning smoothly lays the foundation for well-being in every other area.

  1. Ease Of Movement

The same principle applies to musculoskeletal health. It’s easy to ignore tight muscles or minor stiffness until it starts limiting movement. But regular bodywork, massage, and stretching keep joints mobile and muscles supple, reducing the risk of more serious restrictions or injuries. Many clients find that booking in for treatment when they feel ‘fine’ actually keeps them feeling that way – maintaining flexibility, circulation, and ease of movement as they age.

  1. Nervous System

Stress is another area where preventative care makes a huge difference. By the time stress manifests as tension headaches, depression, sleep problems, or exhaustion, it’s already taking a toll on the body. But having regular treatments, whether it’s herbal medicine for nervous system support or bodywork to release stored tension, may prevent that stress from building up in the first place. Small, consistent steps mean less need for drastic intervention down the track.

  1. Wait For Auto Immune Disease?

Even immune health benefits from a proactive approach. Many people only think about immune support when they’re already sick, but naturopathic treatments and homeopathy work best when used to strengthen the body’s defences ahead of time. Keeping the immune system strong means fewer colds, faster recovery, and better resilience to seasonal changes. What’s the alternative? Wait until you have an autoimmune disease before you think about increasing your self-care and healing.

  1. Feeling Good – The Time To Act!

True wellness isn’t about waiting until things go wrong and then trying to fix them- it’s about creating solid and resilient health, so issues don’t have a chance to take hold and if they do, you have more chance of having a positive impact. The best time to take care of your health is when you’re already feeling good.

Facial Massage

The Deeper Benefits of Facial Massage:

More Than Just Relaxation

Facial massage isn’t just a luxurious add-on—it allows for a deeper physiological effect, offering more than just relaxation. While beauty treatments often focus on appearance, a more anatomical approach goes beneath the surface, working with the anatomy and function of the facial muscles for profound benefits.

Our face works hard every day!  From smiling and talking to concentrating and frowning, the muscles are in constant motion. Over time, this can build tension, much like any other part of the body. But facial massage offers more than just unwinding—it promotes long-term muscle health, slowing down the signs of ageing and altering the hormonal responses in your body.

  1. Stimulates Circulation and Lymphatic Flow

A good facial massage encourages blood flow to the skin and deeper tissues, providing oxygen and nutrients where they’re needed. This increased circulation supports healthy tissue repair and helps maintain skin elasticity. At the same time, it promotes lymphatic drainage, reducing puffiness (especially around the eyes) by clearing away built-up toxins. The result? Brighter, fresher skin. And we are only talking 15 mins – that will have wonderful benefits.

Massage To Keep Face Young
  1. Anti-Ageing Effects Through Muscle Relaxation

One of the surprising effects of facial massage is how it may support anti-ageing. Many fine lines and wrinkles aren’t just caused by the natural ageing process but from the wrinkling up of the skin during various expressions. By releasing tension in overworked muscles—such as the forehead, around the eyes, and the jaw—facial massage helps reduce the formation of expression lines. A more relaxed face moves naturally, allowing muscles to rest and minimising strain over time. Research indicates that facial massage techniques can significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles and enhance skin elasticity, contributing to a youthful look (Uda et al., 2020; Shimizu et al., 2022).

  1. Releases Tension from Overworked Muscles

Facial muscles like the masseter (jaw) and orbicularis oculi (around the eyes) get a daily workout, leading to tightness that can contribute to clenching, headaches, and facial discomfort. Massage helps these muscles release and reset, improving their function and preventing long-term tension patterns from forming.

  1. Balances the Nervous System

The face contains a high concentration of sensory nerves connected to the autonomic nervous system. When specific points are massaged, it can activate the parasympathetic response, helping the body shift into ‘rest and digest’ mode. This is especially valuable for those dealing with stress, anxiety, or fatigue, as it promotes deep relaxation.

  1. Enhances the Effects of Full-Body Treatments

Facial massage is an ideal way to finish a full-body massage, helping to integrate the physical and emotional relaxation experienced during the session. This alignment between mind and body allows clients to leave feeling refreshed, centred, and ready to take on the day.

  1. Supports Long-Term Muscle Health and Tone

Just as regular body massages help maintain muscle health, the same principle applies to the face. Gentle, consistent massage can keep the facial muscles toned and healthy. This may slow down sagging over time, supporting natural facial contours and enhancing a more youthful appearance.

Give It a Try

Facial massage offers more than just a feel-good experience—it nurtures the muscles, tissues, and nerves that work hard every day. Whether you want to relieve tension, promote anti-ageing, or enhance your well-being, it’s a simple yet effective way to re-centre yourself. Book yourself in for your massage treatment and then ask for an additional 15 mins for your facial. You’ll love it!

Homoeopathy – Medicine For the 21st Century

A Medicine For Our Times

A system of medicine that may be able to help you enjoy better health & healing

What Is Homoeopathy?

Classical homoeopathic medicine is a system of medicine that treats a wide range of conditions – physical diseases through to mental and emotional problems can be treated homoeopathically. As well as addressing the specific problem, a homoeopathic approach enables the practitioner to also address other factors that may be contributing to the disease in some way. In other words, a holistic approach is taken. For example, rather than just use a medicine to treat eczema, the medicine used will also take into account that the person also suffers from arthritis and bouts of depression.

Medicine Derived Form the Plant, Animal and Mineral Kingdoms

Small doses of medicine are prescribed and only one medicine is given at any time. The medicines are derived from the plant and animal kingdom and homoeopathic pharmacies prepare them via a process of dilution and succussion. Medicines are selected for the individual on the basis of the symptomatology presented. A good example is when you cut up an onion and experience watery and stinging eyes. If you have similar symptoms during a case of hay fever, then a homoeopathic preparation of Allium cepa (onion) may be prescribed and this medicine will begin to remove the hay fever symptoms, beginning the healing process. In such an acute condition, the medicine can begin to work in a very short time, abating the hay fever.

The Founder Of Homoeopathy

Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) was a physician / apothecary who worked in Germany and later in France, Paris. There are many characteristics that make Hahnemann such a significant figure in the 18th century scientific revolution in Europe. He was an exceptionally clear-minded practitioner, investigator and scientist and these qualities led him to explore and investigate health and healing in an objective and non-judgmental way. The fundamental tenet of science today is to just observe and see phenomenon around you without preconceived ideas. This approach allowed Hahnemann to develop the ‘law of similars’ – the turning point for homoepahtic medicine. His life revolved around refining this natural phenomenon and teaching others of its medicinal usefulness.

Conditions Treated

During the Homoeopathic consultation a holistic approach is taken and this enable to homoeopath to treat a wide range of conditions. Physical, Emotional and Mental health issues may be treated with Homoeopathic medicine. These issues include common every-day complaint right through to very serious illnesses. Homoeopathy is used to treat ‘acute’ conditions where a fast result is needed, as well as chronic, ongoing problems. Homoeopathic medicine is also used prophylactically, encouraging the prevention of illness, helping you to keep as healthy as possible.

Depending on what is being treated, homoeopathic medicine can take effect almost immediately (eg: for a migraine) or it can take time to heal (eg: psoriasis).

Your Consultation

Homoeopathy is a holistic system of medicine and so during your consultation, you’ll be asked all sorts of questions not only about your condition but also other things as well. For example, you might be asked how the weather affects you or if you have had any striking dreams, or what foods you crave. All of these qualities help to determine what medicine is going to help you the most.

During your consultation it’s important to use your own words and thoughts about what it is that you are experiencing. For example, pain or discomfort can be experienced in many ways and it’s important to convey that to your practitioner. Sometimes the way you say things can be just as important as what you are actually saying!

However, there are many times that a homoeopathic consultation is more straightforward and this is often seen in ‘acute’ conditions such as a cold, cough or flu for example. It is not always necessary to go into a lot of detail.

When appropriate, referrals are made for further medical investigations. We also invite, if appropriate, your medical health care professional and specialists to work along side us to help make sure you receive the very best treatment possible.

Homoeopathy Is Scientific

Classical homoeopathic medicine is based on a scientific methodology fulfilling the criteria for something to be considered scientific by today’s standards. More and more research is being carried out on the efficacy of homoeopathic medicine and, although a lot more research is needed, there are certainly many studies that show homoeopathy to be an effective form of treatment https://www.hri-research.org

Due partly to the scientific validity of homoeopathy, in various parts of the world homoeopathic medicine has established itself as a viable and commonplace alternative to so-called ‘Western Medicine’. For example in India, Nepal, England, Germany, Switzerland and other parts or Europe, doctors use homoeopathic medicine to treat their patients.

Government & Mainstream Media

The major and most of the minor political parties here in Australia strongly resist homeopathy and in some cases have gone out the way to discredit it as a valid system of medicine. Health fund organisations have been banned from giving rebates to their customers for Homoeopathic treatment for example. Also the National Health and Medical Research Council made a ruling some years ago that homoepathy was not effective. After years of heavy pressure from homoeopathic advocates from around the globe, the first report published (which was subsequently replaced by a second) was released showing that it could not be said that homoeopathy was not effective. Semantics? Definitely not! The NHMRC are currently under review by the Australian ombudsman for claims of gross and deliberate scientific misrepresentation, but now it has been many years now and the ombudsman’s finding has not been released to the public.

I believe this is negativity towards homeopathy comes down to politics, money and the power of medical bodies and pharmaceutical companies. World wide, the homoeopathic fraternity wants to work with governments to find ways to provide it’s people with the best possible health care system and to be open to all forms of safe and effective treatments and preventative options.

I also strongly believe it is so important that, as individuals, we have the right to decide how we want to take care of our health and the treatments and approaches we use and the medications we choose or not choose to use.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Natural Treatment

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Natural Treatment For Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) poses a significant challenge for many individuals, which is why so many people are having natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. This includes using Naturopathic and Homoeopathic medicines. I’m this article I am going to show you some alternative treatments for rheumatoid arthritis.

Mind-Body techniques and Law Of Attraction approaches are also an integral part of treatment for many of my clients as we treat and manage this often debilitating condition. As naturopath & Homoeopath , my role is to use alternative treatments for rheumatoid arthritis. I understand the importance and value of holistic approaches, focusing not only on addressing the pathology but also on enhancing overall well-being.

Disturbingly Common

According the WHO, “The prevalence varies between 0.3% and 1% and is more common in women and in developed countries.” It is also worth noting that they report, “Within 10 years on onset, at least 50% of patients in developed countries are unable to hold down a full-time job.” This indicated just how severe the condition can be. https://www.who.int/chp/topics/rheumatic/en/

Definition: RA often targets the joints, leading to inflammation, tissue damage, and cartilage wear. The in smaller joints like the fingers and toes are commonly affected. RA can extend beyond the joints, affecting vital organs such as the lungs, blood vessels, skin, and eyes.

Key Points

  • Shockingly common
  • ‘Anti-rheumatic’ Diet
  • Holism Essential
  • Positive Thinking and the Law of Attraction
  • Mind-Body Techniques for Arthritis Management
  • Self-Healing Through Visualization and Affirmations

Rheumatoid Arthritis A Natural Treatment

Naturopathy emphasizes the synergy between natural remedies and dietary habits in managing RA symptoms effectively. While supplements and homeopathic medicines can play a supportive role, their efficacy hinges significantly on dietary choices.

One common naturopathic treatment I use with my clients involves an “anti-rheumatic” diet, which excludes gluten, dairy, and sugars. Although variations exist, this dietary approach is a starting point for some clients seeking relief from RA symptoms. AS with any significant dietary change, you need to consult your health care practitioner because there are some situations when this kind of diet could be harmful rather than helpful.

alternative treatments for rheumatoid arthritisAlternative Treatments For Rheumatoid Arthritis

The decision to eliminate gluten, dairy, and sugars from one’s diet sparks various debates within the health community. Critics argue against these dietary exclusions, citing potential risks and nutritional deficiencies. However, naturopaths advocate for exploring alternative calcium sources beyond dairy products, highlighting the abundance of calcium-rich foods such as oatmeal, oranges, soy products, leafy greens, and nuts.

While debates surrounding dietary choices persist, it’s essential for individuals to prioritize their health and seek guidance from qualified professionals when embarking on dietary modifications.

Although not specifically gluten / dairy free, a paleo diet can provide a basis to begin with and then make modifications from there. Check my article: https://andrewjamesnaturopath.com/a-vegetarian-paleo-diet/.  Here are a couple of links you might find helpful – going on a dairy-free and gluten-free diet. Coming off sugar is pretty self explanatory. The Gluten-Free Diet and Dairy-Free: What You Can And Can’t Eat

Now I must say that you need to check with your health care professional if you intend to avoid these foods and food products. It can be dangerous for some people to do so and not in your health-interest.

Note On Calcium

There are people who will argue against going off gluten because only a small percentage have an adverse reaction to it, others will say we need to have cow’s milk products in order to have enough calcium. When exploring alternative treatments for rheumatoid arthritis you need to be aware of possible nutritional considerations. This applies to calcium for example: Just be aware that there are plenty of excellent calcium sources other than cow’s milk products, which is not the mainstream belief in many societies.

High levels of calcium is found in the following: oatmeal, oranges, soy products (eg tofu), beans (legumes) leafy green vegetables, herbs like basil and thyme, nuts and seeds. Just have a bit of search on the net. Embracing a Holistic Approach

Beyond dietary changes, managing RA holistically involves addressing lifestyle factors, stress management, and incorporating physical appropriate activity for individuals. Alternative treatments for rheumatoid arthritis emphasise a personalised approaches, acknowledging that what works for one person may not necessarily work for another.

Incorporating mindfulness practices, gentle exercises like yoga or tai chi, and adequate rest are integral parts of a holistic approach to managing RA. Also, exploring complementary therapies such as acupuncture, massage, reiki etc. may offer supplementary relief and support.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”64px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”8094″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Harnessing the Power of Positive Thinking and the Law of Attraction

When it’s appropriate with a client, I incorporate Law of Attraction (LOA) principles and other Mind-Body techniques. Most people accept a connection between our conscious and subconscious thoughts, emotions, and physical well-being. For individuals dealing with arthritis it may be appropriate to focus on mindset, looking deeper at your feelings and reactions towards the arthritis – and to your health and healing in general.

We can choose, to some degree or other, to focus on positive aspects of your health. For example, when you are able, take your attention to area’s of your body that are pain-free. Enjoy that. Embellish that. Be appreciative of that. When we do this, we are shifting some attention away from, in this example pain, inflammation, limitations, to joints without pain. Of course I am simplifying things here, but you get the idea. I mean we want to find alternative treatments for rheumatoid arthritis so let’s be open to new and different approaches.

Now let me be really obstetrical here: What a Mind-Body practitioner will say is that when we are focused on the pain-free joints, we are potentially going to be more open to healing in general.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”64px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”8101″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Rheumatoid Arthritis Natural Treatment – Mind-Body

Does acting on an impulse and enjoying a relaxing meal at a restaurant sound like ‘treatment’ to you? Absolutely! Let me explain.

Mind-Body techniques offer a powerful way to help manage arthritis and contribute to enhancing overall quality of life. Practices such as mindfulness meditation, guided imagery, deep breathing exercises or tapping (EFT) are ways to reduce stress, help reduce the perception of pain and to promote relaxation.

You can train your mind, or perception, to become better at noticing signals from your body. When we tune in, more often than not, your body will tell you when something needs attention. It’s listening to your body and responding in a way that is nourishing, nurturing and contributes to building your health or strengthening your wellbeing. I call this listening to your ‘Inner Health Guide’!

For example, if you are experiencing a flare up of arthritic symptoms, then listen to what your Inner Health Guide is telling you. Maybe it’s telling you the obvious – get back onto your natural herbal tonic to help reduce any pain. Or maybe it’s something unrelated like, take the time this afternoon and get your fruit & vegs for the week from market that had just open up.

When you are seeking natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, remember that ‘treatment’ may seem completely unrelated to the condition. Be open to allowing one thing to lead onto another – all in view of helping you to be as healthy as possible. Going to the new local markets might mean that you happen to see a herbalist, who you end up having some treatment from.

You might end up having delicious dinner at a traditional Indian restaurant, spending a wonderful, delightful and relaxing hour or so – nourishing not only your body, but your spirit too![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”64px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”8095″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Empowering Self-Healing Through Visualization and Affirmations

Visualization and affirmations are great tools for self-healing and transformation when dealing with arthritis.

By envisioning themselves free from pain and mobility limitations, individuals can activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms and ignite a sense of hope and optimism.
Affirmations are repeated positive statements helping to rewire the subconscious mind, replacing limiting beliefs with more uplifting ones. By affirming statements like, “I am allowing healing of my body, one step at a time”, may help you to be more open to all the possible ways of healing for you.

To put it another way, if you were to affirm the opposite, ie “I am not open to healing”, you can instantly feel how that is going to block progress. So you can choose what beliefs you want to support and encourage. Just remember though, you always want affirmations to feel either realistic or encouraging.

For someone who has discomfort while walking, affirming that they are moving towards being able to walk so freely and comfortably,[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_column_text]

What Is Your Definition Of Disease?

When it comes to experiencing better-than-average health, understanding the definition of disease is going to help you, may be more than you realise. Clients that find high levels of health, healing and wellbeing pretty much have a good understanding, in one way or another. In this article I will share with you some of the ways that we can understand ‘what is disease’ and how this can, and does, affect your experience of health. I’m giving you an overview here so you can start to use some of this thinking as you move towards better health.

I am going to interchange the words disease, illness, health, wellbeing and healing. Each have their own definition (which I won’t go into here) and yet you almost can’t consider one without the other.

Cause – Effect:  A Simplistic Understanding

One definition of disease encompasses the fundamental principle of cause and effect (germ theory: https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/mathematics/germ-theory). There is trigger, be it a bacteria or virus. The definition can be extended to include genetics, certain environmental factors, or lifestyle habits, that sets off a chain reaction within the body. This results in symptoms or conditions that can be considered disease. This understanding  is what underpins ‘modern’ medicine.

What is disease?
Bacteria etc, explain the cause – effect model of disease

Can You Be Healthy With Illness?

As we begin to define disease, in any way, we have to ask the question, “can one be healthy and still have a disease?” Surprisingly, the answer isn’t always straightforward. Health isn’t merely the absence of disease but rather a holistic state of balance. It includes the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Therefore, individuals can be healthy or experience wellbeing while having an illness.

What does it take to be healthy?
What does it take to be healthy?

Disease Is Not Only Physical
As we look a little deeper, we uncover that disease is not confined to physical (including psychological / psychiatric) ailments. It encompasses our whole experience. For example, the mind-body connection plays a powerful role in our thoughts, emotions and spiritual inclinations. This then affects us physically. This idea is very much aligned to using out thoughts and emotions to positively affect our health.Check out my article on manifesting health. (https://andrewjamesnaturopath.com/manifesting-health/)

Illness involves much more than the physical

Disease Is Spiritual!

Contemplating what is disease, is going to differ depending on the culture and societal groups. Illness is understood in different ways. Traditional Chinese medicine, for instance, views disease as an imbalance in the flow of vital energy, known as chi. This holistic paradigm contrasts with western medicine’s premise of cause – effect’ as I mentioned before.

As we understand disease, health and wellbeing, is become apparent that our perceptions and beliefs profoundly influence our experience of, for example, how healthy we are and feel. Some cultures interpret illness as a spiritual phenomenon, attributing its origins to metaphysical forces or divine interventions. https://anthrosource.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/15481387

So What’s Your Understanding Of Disease?

Let me finish by saying the definition of disease is a complex discussion. Yet if you draw on some of the ideas I have discussed here, you can shape your understanding of health and disease in a way that is true and is going to support your desire to enjoy the best health possible. How you think about illness can and does affect the level of wellbeing you experience.

Manifesting Health

Manifesting Health With Your Powers of Positive Intentions

In the realm of holistic healing, the concept of manifesting health extends beyond the physical; when we address health and healing we see an interplay between mind, body, and spirit. At the core of this, in a practical sense, lies Law of Attraction (LOA) principles. It also involves other body- mind techniques that harness universal principles that the power of positive intentions. These can (and in my understanding do) shape our reality and our experience of life. And this is how we contribute to manifesting health.

Easy Principles For You To Follow

In this article, I’m going to share with you a solid outline that you can follow and begin to take advantage of what I like to call a Health Mindset. As a Naturopath & Homeopath, I have seen wonderful results using Natural medicines over the years. When Mind-Body and LOA principles are used as well, I have seen even better more profound results!

The Key To Manifesting Health

Central to the philosophy of LOA and the Healthy Mindset, is the belief that like attracts like. Things that which we focus our thoughts and energy on, we attract into our lives or they become more dominant. When it comes to health, this principle encourages you to develop an expectancy towards health and healing. By harnessing the power of our thoughts, emotions and intentions, we become active participants in the co-creation of our own health experience. This can mean improved health, better healing or perhaps a stronger sense of wellbeing, peace and balance.

Manifest good health
“We can choose what we focus on.”

Dreams Or Desires?

Now I want to be really clear here. I like to make the distinction between focusing on what we can call a ‘dream’ compared to focusing on a ‘desire’. For example, we can dream that in our lifetime, we will be able to travel to and live on Venus. Or we can have the desire that we are going to travel the world and experience new and wonderful places. See the difference? One is pretty unrealistic as far as we can tell while the other does seem within the realms of possibility. It’s important to apply this principle to ourselves when it come to issues of health.
The steps that can help manifest good health begin with the cultivation of a positive mental attitude. By consciously choosing to focus on thoughts of health, vitality or resilience, you plant the seeds of healing, consciously and subconsciously. Instead of allowing fear, doubt, symptoms, or illness to be dominant, you can choose to focus, as much as you can, on your vitality, ability to heal, ability to enjoy life and be at peace. As much as you can, you can make this conscious switch to these ‘positive’ aspects. Of course there are times that this seems impossible, say if you are in a lot of pain, grieving the loss of a loved one, or overwhelmed with symptoms. But when you can, you shift your attention.

“How ‘realistic’ is it to travel to Venus in your lifetime?”

Goals For Manifesting Health

Setting clear health goals are like having a compass on your journey. They guide you towards the things you want and desire. This applies to a super-nourishing diet, a regular and enjoyable exercise routine, finding a treatment that is going to move you forward in a positive way. By anchoring our intentions into specific, achievable goals, we provide focus that helps to keep us to manifest good health.

“Setting your goals and having a vision”

Make It Real

Crucial to the process of manifesting better health, healing and wellbeing, is the practice of visualization. We all know this right? But like many things it is something to develop and evolve and basically, to become better at it. Engage your senses, emotions and intuition and make it a visceral experience. Physiologically, for example, with each mental image, we strengthen the neural pathways that align us with our desired state of well-being, paving the way for its manifestation in our reality.

Acknowledge The Positive

Strengthening gratitude can further focus our intentions. This is where we get a little ‘spiritual’. You can have this sense of appreciation for the blessings that you have in life. Sometime, yes you have to look hard to see them, other times there are so many right in front of us. By cultivating gratitude for the gift of health and wellbeing, I believe we are acknowledging a higher power if you like. Some thing or some being, or certain circumstances have provided these wonderful things in our life – the ability to think, see, walk, heal, have positive relationships with others. As a homoeopath & Naturopath I am always appreciate of the wonderful medicines and techniques available to all of us to help us on our humanly path!

“Acknowledging the positive”

To be a human being, we face of challenges and setbacks, all of us experience. This includes illness, disease, accidents, less than optimal wellbeing. There are many ways to respond to these but if you want to develop your Health Mindset and contribute to manifesting health, here’s what you could do.

Accept: As much as you can, accept the here and now and what your ‘status quo’ actually is. Now this can be a huge step sometimes, but I won’t go further into this here. That’s another article!

Opportunity: Many practitioners of LOA will see these events as opportunities to grow and evolve. They may lead you to taking actions that will enhance your health. Suffering an illness has the potential to deepen and strengthen your sense of well being. Not feeling as healthy as you want to, can lead you to seeking homoeopatic treatment, for example or other forms of treatment that you haven’t considered.
The path to manifesting health and finding more resilient levels of wellbeing, is not a solitary one. Many people across the globe have a high degree of ‘intentional wellbeing’ and are great manifesters of health. Most of the clients I see fit into this category at some level. Basically they know there is more to health and wellbeing than taking a supplement, or taking a pharmaceutical!

So start today, start now and begin manifesting health into your life. Actively nourish your sense of wellbeing and most importantly, be open to all the ways you can do this. Sometimes when you want your health to be better you have to do something differently, or to tweak and modify what you are already doing.

Liver Detox

The Liver Detox Juice

Cleanse And Rejuvenate Your Liver with Nourishing Vegetable Juices

Look no further than the power of a Liver Detox Juice. It’s simply a combination of vegetable juices. This is a natural way to rejuvenate your liver and enhance your overall well-being. Our liver works tirelessly to detoxify our bodies from toxins and impurities, making it essential to support its function through proper nutrition. The liver is also connected to and affects other organs of your body such as your digestive tract and thyroid. Incorporating nutrient-rich vegetable juices, and small, diluted amounts of fruit juice, can provide your liver with the nourishment it needs to thrive and stimulates cleaning. You can use this information if you want to do a 3 day liver cleanse juice.

Beetroot: Liver Detox Juice Essential

Beetroot juice is renowned for its detoxifying properties and is a staple in liver cleansing protocols. (1 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31353701/) Rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients, beetroot helps stimulate liver function and promotes the elimination of toxins from the body. Its vibrant colour signifies the presence of betalains, compounds that support liver health and aid in detoxification processes. Start your day with a refreshing blend vegetable juice including beetroot to help kick start your liver detox journey.

Supportive Greens For Liver Health
Incorporating leafy greens such as kale, spinach, and dandelion greens into your juice blends can further support liver health. These greens are packed with chlorophyll, a powerful detoxifier that helps cleanse the liver and purify the bloodstream. Kale, in particular, contains glucosinolates, compounds known for their ability to promote liver detoxification enzymes. Mix and match your favourite greens to create delicious and nutritious juice combinations that nourish your body from the inside out.

Balancing With Small Amounts of Fruit Juice
While vegetables take centre stage in liver detoxification, incorporating small, diluted amounts of fruit juice can add a touch of sweetness and flavour to your blends. Citrus fruits like lemon and grapefruit are rich in vitamin C, which supports liver function and aids in the production of glutathione, a potent antioxidant crucial for detoxification. Additionally, apples contain pectin, a soluble fibre that helps remove toxins from the digestive tract, supporting overall liver health. Be mindful of the sugar content in fruit juices and opt for whole fruits whenever possible to maximize nutritional benefits. https://andrewjamesnaturopath.com/is-water-a-massive-stress-on-your-body/

Hydration and Liver Cleansing
Proper hydration is essential for optimal liver function and detoxification. Alongside vegetable juices, ensure you’re drinking an adequate amount of filtered water throughout the day to flush out toxins and support kidney function. Herbal teas such as dandelion root and milk thistle can also complement your liver detox regimen by promoting bile production and supporting liver regeneration. But really, any herbal tea is going to give you the fluids you need, enhancing the Liver Detox Juice approach, even more. By staying hydrated and incorporating nourishing vegetable juices into your daily routine, you can promote liver health and enhance your overall vitality. You might like to check out my article on water – a few really interesting facts to be aware of when it comes to hydration and the H2O!

Nourish Your Liver, Nourish Your Body
Incorporating vegetable juices into your diet is a simple yet effective way to support liver health and cleansing and promote overall well-being. By harnessing the power of nutrient-dense vegetables like beetroot and leafy greens, along with small amounts of fruit juice, you can nourish your body and rejuvenate your liver. Remember to prioritize hydration and complement your juice regimen with healthy lifestyle practices for optimal results. Embrace the healing properties of nature’s bounty and embark on a journey toward vibrant health and vitality.

Pulp Me UP
Now it is really important to add the pulp to your juices. It nis jammed packed with the all essential fibre as well as massive amounts of nutrients. Even if you don’t use all the pulp, then please add a spoonful or three into the mix! This will significantly improve your Liver Detox Juice.

Equipment

Ideally it will be easier to invest in a juicer if you don’t already have one. As for the type, well there are pros and cons for the various model. Personally I think any juicer is better than none at all! You can also use a blender. This will result in all the pulp being retained so you can strain some of that out using a strainer. Now there is going to be more waste doing it this way for sure, but it is an option.

Medical Exceptions
Warning: when altering your diet you need to understand that there are some conditions and situations that having juices as I’m discussing in this article, is not good for your health or indeed dangerous (eg: gall stones). Please consult your health care professional to get the ok before you go on a juice liver detox.

Health Mindset

Natural Medicines And The Health Mindset

Our understanding of health, healing & wellbeing goes beyond just physical fitness and the absence if disease. It also includes what I like to refer to as a health mindset. Combined these qualities will go a long way to influencing the level of health and healing and wellbeing you enjoy. In fact I would go as far to say, that over the last 30 or so years practicing as a homoeopath / naturopath, a ‘solid’ health mindset is one common denominator of clients that do really well with treatment and above all, enjoy high levels of wellbeing.

A Health Mindset Combined With Natural Medicines

A health mindset is undoubtedly more than just a positive attitude. It’s a way of thinking that acknowledges the mind-body connection in a very tangible, practical and intentional way. It as the acknowledgement that our mental / emotional / spiritual state can influence our physical health and vice versa. Instead of viewing health as solely the absence of illness, on the whole, individuals with a health mindset understand that well-being encompasses the many dimensions of being an individual. So when this approach is combined with Natural medicines such as homoeopathy and naturopathy, by in large, health and healing are promoted from different angles. One supporting and complimenting the other.

Accept The Status Quo

One fundamental step when encouraging the health mindset, is the practice of mindfulness. Being fully present in the moment, acknowledging your thoughts and feelings with a degree of equanimity or objectivity. When it come to your health and dealing with an illness or some condition, I like to say to my clients that it is about accepting the status quo. Look at what’s happening with your health and, as mush as possible, accepting what is happening. Now I know this is sometimes a lot easier said than done, but having this intention is a good first step towards reshaping the mindset.

“The practice of mindfulness helps build a health minset”

Through techniques such as meditation, yogic breathing exercises or prayer, we can train our minds to stay more focused on the present, reducing stress and promoting a sense of calm. These kind of practices become the cornerstone in building a mindset that is going to support your healing while taking natural medicines. Check out my article on health meditation:

https://andrewjamesnaturopath.com/10-min-health-connection-meditation/

Journalling Builds A Strong Health Mindset

Journalling is another powerful tool for cultivating the health mindset – it’s one of my favourites. Through writing, we can explore our thoughts and emotions, gaining insights into stories, patterns and triggers. This reflective practice not only promotes self-awareness but also serves as a therapeutic release, allowing individuals to process and release pent-up emotions. It becomes a journey of self-discovery, helping to reshape negative thought patterns into more positive and empowering ones. What I love about journalling is that it helps keep me focused.

Vision Board And Manifestation

Creating a vision board is a popular method people like to use. It’s a way to help manifest particular desires and contribute to a stronger health mindset. A vision board is a collage of images, affirmations or quotes that represent your goals and aspirations in a meaningful and real way. Through the creative process of the vision board, you are more easily able to visualise your positive health & healing, reinforcing a positive mindset and enhance motivation. This is one technique used in the Law of Attraction (LOA), suggesting that like attracts like. As we put our attention and focus on positive aspects of our health, LOA states that we are more likely to attract more positive experiences. https://totalbalance.com.au/how-to-make-a-vision-board/

Intentions For Healthy Mindset

One really important quality to cultivate is to be able to set your intentions about what you want from your health, healing and wellbeing. It’s a bit like stating a goal, and while this may be true, it is more ‘holistic’ than that. You see, to a greater or lesser degree, we can choose our thoughts and decide how we are going to respond in a certain situation. This approach can help to give us a sense of control over our well-being, reducing feelings of helplessness and fostering resilience in the face of adversity.

To have the health mindset does require practice. And we do get better at it over time. It involves making conscious, intentional choices about healing and encourages positive thought patterns. When this health mindset is coupled with natural medicines it allows for a wonderful combination. This combination can significantly contribute to your health, healing and wellbeing.

Deep Tissue – 6 Reasons

“How Deep Tissue Massage Releases Tight Muscles”
6 Good Reasons To Enjoy A Treatment

Muscle tightness and tension can be addressed using Deep Tissue Massage techniques and in today’s article I want to highlight the reasons it can work so well in helping to relieve muscular stiffness.

1 Circulation: Supplying muscles fibres with oxygen and nutrients as well as removing toxins such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid, is an essential physiological function that is going to help muscles to relax. Deep tissue massage, because it able to stimulate the deeper levels of muscle tissue, is very effective at dong just this. Also when a muscle fibre is tight, the blood flow automatically reduced and this contributes to the inability of the muscles to relax fully.

2 Scar Tissue: Scar tissue and adhesions will affect how muscles function and essentially how they stretch and contract. This ‘hardened’ tissue also affects the ligaments and tendons and can form around joints as well. Deep tissue approaches are able to literally move this hard tissue around, just a little, and this helps get the blood flowing and may contribute to the reduction of, or slowing down of, scare tissue formation.

This is a graphic representing the Golgi apparatus – it helps to determine the tightness of muscles.

3 Reprogram the Golgi: With correctly applied tissue massage techniques, muscles and tendons can be appropriately stretched in a way that ‘resets’ a mechanism called the Golgi apparatus. This allows the muscle’s normal state to be, automatically, a little more relaxed than it was before the procedure. This also allows joint movement associated with that muscle to improve or increase. https://bscb.org/learning-resources/softcell-e-learning/golgi-apparatus/

This is how a muscle looks. Both the muscle fires and the tendon can be stretched with Deep Tissue Massage

4 Body Tension: If you have ever had a good massage treatment, then you would have experienced the relaxation that can result. So if that level of overall relaxation is maximised, than almost by default, there will be some degree of muscle release and muscle relaxation.

5 Posture: When I treat my clients with Deep Tissue Massage techniques, I am often addressing some postural issue as an underlying factor. Also mobilising restricted joints is another important part of my treatments. When we address both of these issues, muscle tension will be positively affected. In fact, if muscle tension is due to a restricted vertebral joint, for example, when the joint or joints are ‘loosened’ the muscles both around the vertebrae and in other posturally related areas, will begin to relax and tension released.

Improving joint mobility helps release muscle tension.

6 Range of Motion: Deep tissue massage has the techniques to help increase the mobility of joints. When a joint is moving more, then muscles associated with that joint, will stretch more and this in turn can help to relax the muscle that was previously tight.

So there you have it! Six good reasons to take advantage of this very specific form of massage treatment. Call the clinic now or book yourself in online. We’d love to see you. https://andrewjamesnaturopath.com/book-a-consultation/
